iMac

Oh yeah, baby! Trickster's got that new hotness. You know what I'm talking about.

So I finally broke down and got that new computer. I was debating whether or not I should hold off on it, since the honey and I decided that, even though a Mac Mini was cheaper, the iMac was a better investment. Imac_2

Funny thing was, my PC died. Again. And again. In fact, every time I managed to "fix" it in the last few weeks, it would die a day or two (or hour or two) later. The last time being this morning. I finally had it. Screw you, PC!

I'm sure you all remember what an Apple groupie I am. It was inevitable, really. I got the base level iMac, and let me tell you, it really is all that. The only thing I don't like is having to download all my CDs over again, since I can't figure out how to transfer all my non-purchased tunes from my iPod. But if that's the only inconvenience, I'm still calling it a deal. I'm loving this thing. In the words of Ferris Bueller, "it's so choice."

Vocabulary: Hebetude

Hebetude (heb·e·tude) (noun) - Dullness of mind; mental lethargy.

As in:  "My computer is not only insane, but it is bulky and suffering from chronic hebetude.  It's time to buy a much saner, sleeker, smarter computer.  I see an Apple in my future."

The Curse of Millhaven

I wish I could tell a story half as well as Nick Cave can. The man has a gift for telling stories, and he does it through song.  How talented can you be?  Who does that anymore?  Now granted, a guy who has an album called "Murder Ballads" does tend to favor the darker end of the street (more like the back alley), but don't hold that against him.  The man is good.

In any case, I'm listening to The Curse of Milhaven on my iPod right now, and I can't tell you just what a naughty pleasure this song gives me.  I actually feel guilty for loving it as much as I do.  It's just so wrong.  I'd give you a YouTube nugget, but I couldn't find a good version of it there.  You can listen to it here though.  And read the lyrics if you can't listen to it.  If it doesn't make the naughty imp on your shoulder cackle madly, well then you probably don't have my twisted sense of humor.

Magic Feather

I feel the need to give mad props to my buddy, HeyStacy.  Because of his little writing workshop excercise idea, I managed to mostly complete a short story, and I haven't had the courage to do that in a long time.  Also, a shout out to his sometime-evil-sidekick (and sometimes evil dictator of Aggietown) Aggie, for participating, and by default, encouraging the process.  Also to any of the other mad scientist creative team participating at the Rotten Apples Workshop.  You know who you are.

The idea is to write two pages a week, but not to edit them.  No editing, just write, write, write.  At the end of two weeks, we present what we have to the group for feedback, and write another two pages, and so on.  Forcing myself to not edit as I go along has put a stinky sweatsock in the mouths of most of the negative voices in my head, and pushes me along the story without slowing myself down with details.  It's like Dumbo's magic feather.  I can't believe how well it's working so far.  Thanks guys!!

Webgadget

Yes, I'm still here.  I've been hellabusy lately, so blogging fell by the wayside.  Plus, one of my cats has been sick, so you know how it goes.  Family (and my cats are family) takes priority over all.

I guess you can say I'm back, though.  And since I'm here, I get to show off my latest webgadget.  Typepad has this cool new feature that lets you add a "Share This" button.  Basically, you just register for a "Share This" account, and it connects you to a boatload of neato Web2.0-y social networking websites.  I'm not exactly Little Ms. Publicityseeker or anything, but I couldn't help but ry it.  The blinky button is really cool.  It's the little things that amuse me so.

Voting Reminder

Just reminding NC folks to get out there and vote.  If you don't vote, the Alliance wins, and we can't have that.

Happy May Day 2008!

Happy May Day everyone!  And to all my Wiccan peeps out there, happy Beltane!  I know, I know.  We don't really celebrate May Day in this country, but I think it's a damn shame.  It looks like fun.  Dance ye merry folk around a maypole.  Kinda like the merry folk in the ridonkuolously triptastic The Safety Dance video.

By some funny coincidence, I was in a crazy 80's mood this morning and heard this song on the way to work, and then I was reminded of the may pole in the video, so now I'm subjecting you to the wtf?-ness of this little gem.  Yeah, I don't know why the lead singer thought he was in a goth band, but by the look on his face, he's apparently looking into the future and thinks he's Trent Reznor.  So sad for him.  I don't know what the blonde's deal is, but damn.  I remember my brothers and I laughing about her even then, and we were just kids.  Is she ditzy, or just insane?  Hard to tell.  And the rest?  Dunno.  All I can say is that there was probably lots of drugs involved in the making of this nugget of cinematic gold.  It was the 80's, after all.  In any case, I hope this puts a smile on your face this fine, flowery, and somewhat retro May Day.  Enjoy!
